1. Who this policy covers
Faro is a social taste app for iPhone that helps people choose films using ratings, saves, Taste Matches, Help Me Choose, Watch Together, Close Circle, watchlist, shortlist, and streaming-service settings. This policy covers the Faro app, the TestFlight beta, and the tryfaro.app website.
2. Information Faro may collect
Faro may collect account information, sign-in information, film ratings, saves, watchlist and rewatch signals, seen state, shortlist choices, onboarding responses, lists, search actions, recommendation interactions, Close Circle invitations, accepted relationships, support form submissions, TestFlight feedback, device type, operating system, app version, crash reports, performance diagnostics, authentication events, and security logs.
3. How Faro uses information
Faro uses information to create and authenticate accounts; provide ratings, search, watchlist, shortlist, Taste Matches, Help Me Choose, Watch Together, and Close Circle; show rating-based recommendation evidence where your Taste Match or Close Circle relationship allows it; sync account data across devices; improve recommendations; respond to beta feedback and support requests; detect bugs; protect the service; and comply with App Store and legal obligations.
4. What Faro does not do
Faro does not sell personal data. Faro does not show ads in the beta. Faro does not sell paid ranking or sponsored recommendations. Faro does not build a public follower-count or leaderboard experience around your taste, and your ratings are not public to everyone by default.
5. Third-party services
Faro may use third-party services to operate the beta, including TMDB for film metadata, posters, images, credits, genres, and catalogue information; Apple for TestFlight, Sign in with Apple, App Store services, device distribution, and crash diagnostics; Supabase or similar infrastructure providers for authentication, database, sync, and operational services; and hosting or form providers for the website and support forms. Faro is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
6. Website privacy
The tryfaro.app website is intended to be lightweight. It should not use advertising trackers or unnecessary analytics. Hosting providers may process ordinary server logs such as IP address, request path, browser type, and timestamp to deliver and secure the site.
7. Rating visibility, Taste Matches, and Close Circle
Your film ratings will be visible by name to your Taste Matches and Close Circle. This named Taste Match and Close Circle evidence is foundational to Faro because recommendations are more useful when they can show whose taste supports a suggestion, where your Taste Match or Close Circle relationship allows it.
Taste Matches are worked out automatically from taste overlap and can change over time; you do not approve each one individually. Close Circle is intended for private film-picking interactions with people you actually watch with.
Your ratings are not public to everyone by default. Outside Taste Matches and Close Circle, Faro uses rating-based recommendation evidence only as name-free aggregate summaries where enough people support the claim.
8. Deletion and support requests
You can request account help, privacy help, or data deletion through the Support form. Some records may need to be retained temporarily where needed for security, backups, legal compliance, dispute handling, or App Store records.
9. Children
Faro is not intended for children under 13.
10. Security
Faro uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards for a beta iPhone app. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but Faro is designed to minimise unnecessary public exposure of your film taste.
11. Changes
Faro may update this policy as the app and beta evolve. Material changes will be posted on this page.
