WHAT FARO DOES

A decision point for film night.

Faro narrows the evening to films that make sense now — not another wall of options to scroll through.

Help Me Choose

Tell Faro what you're in the mood for, how much time you have, what you can watch, and what to avoid. Get a short slate for tonight.

Watch Together

Choose with a partner, friend, or family member. Faro weighs both taste profiles so one person's queue does not dominate.

ONBOARDING SHORTCUT

Already use Letterboxd?

If you already have a film-rating history, Faro can use it to understand your taste more quickly.

Import your ratings

If you already rate films on Letterboxd, Faro can import your ratings by CSV so you don't have to start from scratch.

Your ratings help Faro understand your taste, find Taste Matches, and make better recommendations through Help Me Choose and From your Taste Matches.

Faro is still early beta. If you already have a rich Letterboxd history, importing your ratings is one of the most useful ways to help the recommendation system learn.

WHY FARO

Built for the moment you actually choose.

Streaming services are good at giving you options. Faro is built for the harder part: turning those options into a decision.

Small slates, not endless feeds

Faro is designed to reduce the choice set, not keep you scrolling.

Taste Matches change over time

Taste Matches are worked out automatically from taste overlap and can change over time. You do not approve each Taste Match individually.

Decisions with other people

Watch Together helps you find films that could work for everyone in the room.

Social by design, not public by default

Your film ratings are visible by name to your Taste Matches and Close Circle; outside those audiences, Faro uses rating evidence only in name-free grouped summaries where enough people support it.

WATCH TOGETHER

Built for the group-chat moment.

Faro is most useful when the decision involves more than one person. Add someone to your Close Circle, compare taste, and let Watch Together find films that have a chance of working for both of you. Close Circle can see your ratings by name where Faro uses them as shared film-night evidence.

  • See qualitative Taste Matches, not fake-precise scores.
  • Taste Matches are automatic, based on taste overlap, and can change over time.
  • Keep Close Circle for people you actually watch with.
  • Use Watch Together when one queue is not enough.

WHO IT IS FOR

People who care about the pick.

Faro is for people who like films, but do not want every night to become a negotiation with a streaming menu.

  • People who rate, save, and shortlist films and want that effort to become useful.
  • Couples, friends, families, and housemates who lose time deciding what to watch.
  • Viewers who want privacy and taste, not public likes or follower counts.
  • Early testers willing to send blunt feedback when recommendations miss.

PRIVACY

Your taste is not a status game.

Faro uses your ratings, saves, shortlist, and feedback to make better film-night decisions. Your film ratings are visible by name to your Taste Matches and Close Circle, because named taste evidence is part of how Faro explains why a pick may work. They are not public to everyone by default. Imported ratings are used to help Faro understand your taste and improve recommendations. Faro does not replace your Letterboxd profile.

No ads or paid placement

The beta does not contain ads, in-app purchases, sponsored recommendations, or paid ranking.

Rating evidence has boundaries

Outside Taste Matches and Close Circle, Faro uses rating-based recommendation evidence only as name-free aggregate summaries where enough people support the claim.

Close Circle is for choosing together

Close Circle is for people you actually watch with. It can show your named ratings for shared film-picking, but it is not used as a generic solo recommendation signal.

Feedback improves the beta

TestFlight feedback, screenshots, and support form submissions help fix bugs and recommendation misses.

FAQ

A few practical questions.

Is the beta free?

Yes. Faro is free to test during the TestFlight beta.

Do I need TestFlight?

Yes. Apple uses TestFlight to distribute iPhone beta apps. The beta link will guide you if you need to install it.

Can anyone join?

The public beta has limited TestFlight seats. If the link is full, join the waitlist and we'll open more places in waves.

Can I invite someone I watch with?

Yes. Faro is best tested with a partner, friend, housemate, or family member so Watch Together can be tried in a real film-night situation.

Is Faro a Letterboxd replacement?

No. Letterboxd is brilliant for logging, reviewing, lists, and film community. Faro is focused on a narrower problem: using ratings and taste overlap to help you decide what to watch.

What kind of feedback is useful?

Wrong posters, search failures, streaming-service issues, slow screens, confusing copy, recommendation misses, duplicate results, and Watch Together suggestions that do not make sense.

How is beta data used?

To run the beta, improve recommendations, debug issues, and contact you about feedback you choose to share. Faro does not sell personal data.

Does Faro have ads or sponsored picks?

No. The beta has no ads, no paid placement, and no sponsored recommendations.
